Eight Downtown Franklin Historic Homes Open Doors

2007 Town & Country Tour of Homes offers glimpse of history

FRANKLIN, TN….Eight unique private homes in Historic Downtown Franklin, Tennessee will open their doors and welcome visitors for the 32nd annual Heritage Foundation Town and Country Tour of Homes presented by Shirley Zeitlin & Company Realtors on Saturday, June 2 and Sunday, June 3, according to Mary Pearce, Executive Director of the Heritage Foundation.

“This year’s collection of historic homes is particularly inviting, as they’re all in downtown Franklin in easy walking distance of each other. Tour guests may enjoy the day touring homes, having lunch and shopping in Franklin,” says Pearce.

The homes on tour are the Fleming-Hyatt House at 219 Third Avenue South, the Walker-Whitson House at 803 Fair Street, the Smith-Hardcastle House at 904 Fair Street, the Sheridan Cottage at 800 Fair Street, the Blackburn House at 211 Third Avenue South, the House of Stone at 704 Fair Street, the La Maison Du Reve House at 808 West Main, and LilliHouse at 930 West Main.

“For 32 years the Heritage Foundation’s annual tour showcases what makes Franklin special: its wonderful historic homes,” says David Garrett, who chairs this year’s tour with his wife Vivian, both avid preservationists. “Historic home lovers from all over the Southeast make an annual springtime pilgrimage to Franklin to experience the tour, and we enjoyed meeting them last year when we had our home on tour. We encourage you to see these irreplaceable homes and learn their unique stories.”

“These homes range from stately historic residences to cozy cottages and are of many architectural styles. One of the houses dates back to 1870, and it is fascinating to see how the homes have been preserved yet made family friendly for today’s lifestyle,” stated Garrett.
